From laidlaws at hotkey.net.au Sun May 17 13:34:55 2009 From: laidlaws at hotkey.net.au (Doug Laidlaw) Date: Sun, 17 May 2009 13:34:55 +1000 Subject: [Boykett-announce] OT: Black Saturday scam Message-ID: <200905171334.56046.laidlaws@hotkey.net.au> We tend to think that people who would make money out of Black Saturday's fires aren't in Australia. Think again! A man from Neilborough, just north of Bendigo, is in custody this week-end, on charges of soliciting unwanted cars for locals who had lost theirs in the fires (there were 18 lost,) getting them made roadworthy for free as a charity job, then selling them online and pocketing the proceeds. He claimed to have the support of our Mayor and our local M.P. A bail justice left his bail application for the Magistrate on Monday. The front page story can be read at http://covers.ruralpress.com/cover.asp?pubid=177&foldername=F&size=2&type=p That is a PDF. The link looks incomplete, but it works. He doesn't look like a scammer. Jenny tells me that a woman in this Village donated a car, but she doesn't think that it was to this scam. Doug. Indexer, http://www.ryersonindex.org/
