From laidlaws at hotkey.net.au Thu Oct 29 20:32:41 2009 From: laidlaws at hotkey.net.au (Doug Laidlaw) Date: Thu, 29 Oct 2009 20:32:41 +1100 Subject: [Boykett-announce] The Canada Connection. Message-ID: <200910292032.41636.laidlaws@hotkey.net.au> I have just had another look at Suddie Bill Mumford's family site. He has traced his Mumford family back to John born about 1680, who died on 26 August, 1736 at Littlebury, Essex. The family member who went to Canada was James WRIGHT, born 1832 in Littlebury, Essex. He went to Northumberland, Ontario, along with his mother, Sarah, nee Mumford. She died there in 1859. The date on which he migrated is not give, but he married a local girl "before 1863." He died there in 1911. James Wright was a third cousin of George Selby Mumford who married Thomas Boykett's daughter Caroline. James and George are great-grandsons of two brothers, William and Suddy Mumford of Brent Pelham, Hertfordshire, baptised in 1724 and 1728 respectively. There must be male Mumfords who went to Canada, to carry on the name there, but that seems to be the shortest link. Often one member of a family goes first, and if he likes what he sees, he brings out his family, including remoter relatives. Doug.
